My Review of the TecTecTec ULT-X Golf Rangefinder
The TecTecTec ULT-X golf rangefinder came out in November 2018 and reviews indicated that it is one of the best rangefinders under $300 because it had unique additional features including vibration flaglock confirmation, slope on/off indicator, and a range comparable to Bushnell rangefinders.
The TecTecTec ULT-X golf rangefinder is TecTecTec’s newest and best golf rangefinder. There are many differences between the TecTecTec ULT-X and their other golf rangefinders, the TecTecTec VPRO500S and TecTecTec VPRO DLXS. A comparison of the features between the TecTecTec ULT X vs VPRO500S vs VPRO500 is listed below.
The TecTecTec ULT-X has the longest range to flags at 450+ yards and longest range to large objects, including hazards, at 1000 yards in comparison to any of the best affordable golf rangefinders from Gogogo or Blue Tees.
Its’ ranging capability is very comparable to the more expensive golf rangefinders. It also features slope compensation technology and an external slope on/off indicator that tells tournament organizers that your rangefinder is compliant with the PGA rules. Slope is a number that indicates both the direction and steepness of a hill. The slope compensation technology will compensate distances for uphill and downhill shots which will make choosing the correct club to use much easier.
It comes with 6X magnification, multilayer coating and diopter adjustment functionality which will give anyone who is either nearsighted or farsighted a clear view of the flag. It also comes with a rainproof (water resistant) body (only the VPRO DLXS and ULT-X are waterproof). These golf rangefinders also come fully equipped with a free CR2 battery, wrist strap, microfiber cleaning cloth, quick start guide and a premium carrying pouch that safeguards the rangefinder against impact and poor weather.
Unfortunately, it does not have some of the great features found in the much more expensive golf rangefinders including image stabilization technology, a red OLED display, or an LED light to tell you if slope compensation is being used.
Best Features of the TecTecTec ULT-X
450 Yard Range to Flags and 1000 Yard Range to Hazards
The TecTecTec ULT-X golf rangefinder has Target Lock Technology (TGT) that gives it a 450 yard range to flags and 1000 yard range to hazards which is comparable to the best golf rangefinders on the market.
6X Magnification Power
It has a 6X magnification power. The high quality 6x magnification power gives you bright, clear images of all of your targets.
Better Accuracy Than The More Expensive Rangefinders
The TecTecTec ULT-X laser rangefinder is accurate up to +/- 0.3 yards for distances less than 300 yards which is more accurate than the more expensive rangefinders. It uses the latest optical technology to give you the most accurate and reliable measurements with an unprecedented accuracy of ± 0.3 yards at distances of up to 300 yards, ± 0.5 yards at distances of up to 600 yards and ± 1 yard at distances up to 1,000 yards.
Slope Compensation for Elevation Changes
It will compensate the distance readings to account for slope or elevation changes on the course. It will display the angle-compensated distance, degree of slope, and straight-line distance.
Visible Slope Switch
It has a visible slope switch (or external Slope On/Off indicator) that tells tournament organizers that your device is legal. To turn off the slope feature, all you have to do is push the attached faceplate into place. When you pull the faceplate away from the device, the yellow part of the body exposed which means the slope feature has been activated.
Jolt Technology – Vibration Alert after Target Lock
The TecTecTec ULT-X will vibrate after flaglock. Bushnell has this same feature and calls it Jolt technology. After the rangefinder locks onto the flag, it will vibrate to confirm flag lock.
Ease of Use
It is really easy to use because you can access all of the features with the two buttons (Power and Mode) on top of the device. You use the power button to activate the device and get distance readings. To get distance information, just align the crosshairs in the viewfinder with the target and press the power button to get a distance measurement. You use the mode button to switch between the four different measurement modes.

Continuous measurement mode
It has a Continuous measurement mode. This scan mode gives you instant measurements one after the other of all targets in the viewfinder.
Pin Seeker Mode
This mode allows you to measure the distance to a flagstick with trees in the background. To use this mode, just press and hold down the power button and move the cross hairs around the pin until the rangefinder vibrates to indicate that it has locked onto the nearest target.
Pin Seeker Slope Mode
This mode works the same way as Pin Mode except that you will get both the straight-line distance and the slope adjusted distance, also known as the Play Like distance.
Small and Lightweight
It weighs about 0.41 pounds (or 6.53 ounces) and its’ physical dimensions are very small coming in at 4.1 (width) x 2.8 (height) x 1.6 (depth) inches so it is lightweight and comfortable to carry around.
Tournament Legal
This rangefinder is tournament legal if you push the highly visible faceplate into place to show everyone that your rangefinder is tournament legal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it have Image Stabilization Technology?
No it does not come with Image Stabilization Technology that will stabilize shaky hand movements that cause the image to vibrate while you are trying to get a stable distance reading.
What measurement modes does it have?
All TecTecTec devices come with three different scanning modes: NORMAL Mode, Pin Sensor Technology (First Target Priority) and Continuous Scan Mode. All you have to do is align the reticle with the target and press the POWER button to display the distance.
Normal Mode
This is the default mode found in all rangefinders and it will allow you to quickly measure the distance to a target when there are not too many objects in the background. All you have to do is aim the crosshairs in the viewfinder at the target and press the power button located on the top of the rangefinder to see the target distance in the display in either yards or meters.
Pinsensor Mode
This mode allows you to accurately measure overlapping targets which is ideal for measuring the distance to the pin that has woods in the background. To use this mode, just press and hold down the power button and move the crosshairs around the pin. A few seconds later, the rangefinder will lock onto the nearest target and the display will show you the distance reading.
Scan mode
This scan mode will give you instant distance readings one after the other for any target in your viewfinder. To use this mode, just press and hold down the power button for 8 seconds while moving the rangefinder from target to target. The display will show continuous distance measurements.
What is the maximum measurement range to the flagstick and hazards?
It can measure the distance to flagsticks that are up to 450 yards away and hazards that are up to 1000 yards away which are better than any other TecTecTec golf rangefinder.
Does it adjust distances for slope or elevation changes?
It comes with TecTecTec’s patent pending PinSlope slope compensation technology which allows you to take elevation into account when planning your shots. It will calculate the elevation-adjusted distance to the target for either uphill or downhill shots.
Pinslope will display angle-compensated distance, or elevation, in addition to the same direct distance that the Pinsensor mode will give you. This is an important feature because knowing the slope-adjusted distance will give you more accurate information to help you choose the correct club to use. Slope Compensation is meant to adjust the yardage based on uphill or downhill incline (slope). The slope compensated distance combines the horizontal distance with the change in height which becomes your guide for how far you should play the ball. This comes in handy when you are hitting an approach shot into an elevated or depressed green, as the displayed yardage compensates for the elevation change which gives you a better idea of which club to select.
Does it come with an external slope on/off indicator?
Yes it comes with a highly visible faceplate that acts as a slope on/off indicator that will indicate to tournament organizers that your device is not using slope compensation technology. The faceplate is really simple to operate. All you have to do is pull the attached faceplate into place to turn off the slope feature. When the yellow part of the body is exposed, that means the slope feature is on. When you push the faceplate toward the device, the slope feature is turned off.
Does it vibrate after flag lock confirmation?
Yes it vibrates after flag lock just like the high end golf rangefinders do. It is the only TecTecTec golf rangefinder that comes with a vibration flaglock confirmation feature which causes the device to vibrate after it locks onto the flag. The locked on technology will confirm the distance measurement to the flagstick. It will make certain that the measured distance is to the flagstick and not to the trees behind it.
Is it more accurate than the high end rangefinders?
It comes with the latest optical technology which will enable it to give you the most accurate measurements from the furthest distances. It gives you the most accurate measurements of any TecTecTec rangefinder. It is more accurate than the high end rangefinders because the ULT-X features an unprecedented accuracy of ± 0.3 yards at distances of up to 300 yards, ± 0.5 yards at distances of up to 600 yards, and ± 1 yards at distances of up to 1,000 yards.
Does it have as much magnification power as the more expensive rangefinders?
Unfortunately, it has a lower magnification power than the 7x magnification power of the more expensive rangefinders. It only has 6X magnification power and diopter adjustment functionality for clearer views of the targets no matter how bad your eyesight is.
Does it have the ability to take continuous distance measurements?
Yes this rangefinder has a Scan Mode which will continuously measure multiple targets and give you the distance readings to hazards, pins, and trees in seconds.
Can you use it even if you wear eyeglasses?
It comes with a large ocular with a long eye relief design that provides a wide field of view which makes it easier to see small target.
Will you see bright and clear images of the targets?
It has a lens with multilayer coating which increases light transmission and gives you a really bright and clear view of any target.
What type of battery does it use?
It comes with a non-rechargeable lithium CR2 battery.
Is it waterproof and fogproof?
No it is not waterproof or fogproof. Unfortunately, it is only water resistant which means you cannot submerge it under water but it can withstand a light rain.
Does it come with a red OLED display?
No it does not come with a red OLED display that will make the readings easier to see under poor lighting conditions. Instead, it comes with the typical black display that is found in all golf rangefinders.
How long is the warranty?
All of the TecTecTec rangefinders come with the standard 2-year warranty that all of the high end rangefinders have. In order to qualify for this warranty, you have to register your device online on this webpage: Rangefinder Warranty Registration.
Final Verdict
The TecTecTec ULT-X is definitely better than the TecTecTec VPRO500 S because only it has slope compensation, visible slope switch, vibration target lock alert, 1000 yard max range, and 450 yard range to flags. However, it costs a little more than the TecTecTec VPRO500 S but the extra features make the ULT X worth the extra money. It does not have the more advanced features of the more expensive rangefinders, such as the Red LED display, magnetic cart mount and slope with elements, but it is about 50% cheaper than the more expensive rangefinders. So I do not think that you will be disappointed with the TecTecTec ULT-X because it is easy to use and comes with many of the best features that you would find in the high end golf rangefinders.
