Does the Garmin Approach S62 have a Pulse Oximeter?
Unlike the Garmin S60, the Garmin Approach S62 (released in January 2020) has a pulse oximeter for measuring blood oxygen saturation level and heart rate monitor. This wrist-based pulse oximeter feature is one of the biggest reasons the Garmin s62 is a better golf watch than the S60 Premium. The Garmin S62 has more in common with the Apple Watch 7 and Apple Watch Ultra because the Garmin S62 and Apple Watch 7 and Ultra have a wrist-based heart monitor and pulse oximeter.
Other Garmin fitness watches such as the Garmin Vivoactive 4 smartwach, Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Solar, and Garmin 965 Forerunner watches had this feature but the predecessor to the Garmin Approach S62, the Garmin Approach S60 (released in June 2017), did not come with this feature. The wrist-based pulse oximeter in the Garmin S62 works just like the one found in the Garmin Vivoactive, Fenix, and Forerunner watches.
The wrist-based pulse oximeter in the Garmin Approach S62 is used to gauge the oxygen saturation in your blood. If you know the saturation of oxygen in your blood, then you will be able to determine how your body is adapting to exercise and stress. The Garmin S62 will gauge your blood oxygen level by shining light into the skin and trying to figure out how much of the light was absorbed. This is commonly known as SpO2.
On the face of the watch, your pulse oximeter readings will appear as an SpO2 percentage. On your Garmin Connect account, you can view more details about your pulse oximeter readings, including trends over more than one day.
How Do You Get Readings from the Garmin S62’s Pulse Oximeter?
You can manually begin a pulse oximeter reading by viewing the pulse oximeter widget. The accuracy of the pulse oximeter readings will vary based on your blood flow, the placement of the watch on your wrist, and your stillness.
Note: If you do not see the pulse oximeter widget on the watch, then you may need to add it to the widget loop.
1. While you are sitting or inactive, just swipe up on the display to see the widget for the pulse oximeter.
2. Select this widget to view more details and to start the pulse oximeter reading.
3. For the optimum results, you should hold your arm that has the watch on the wrist at heart level while the S62 reads the blood oxygen saturation.
4. You should remain still while you are waiting for the completion of the reading. This watch will display your oxygen saturation as a percentage. It will also display a graph of the heart rate values and pulse oximeter readings for the past 4 hours.
How Do You Turn On Pulse Oximeter Sleep Tracking on the Garmin S62?
The instructions below will tell you how to set up your watch to continuously measure your blood oxygen saturation while you are sleeping.
1. Firstly, press the Menu button. The Menu button consists of three horizontal bars.
2. Tap on the Settings option.
3. Scroll down the options and select the Sensors & Accessories option.
4. Scroll down the options and select Pulse OX During Sleep to turn this option on
The Pulse Ox readings take place nightly during the middle four hours of your own sleep window. Any readings that are taken will be displayed in Garmin Connect.
Unfortunately, the Garmin S62 cannot support all-day Pulse Oximeter tracking.
Note: You should be careful to not place your body in any unusual sleep positions because that can cause abnormally low sleep-time SpO2 readings.
